Degrees of Masturbation Addiction

How do we classify the degrees of masturbation addiction?

First of all, almost every male engages in masturbation (unless there is a physical or psychological limitation preventing it), so the action itself is not what sets individuals apart. What distinguishes categories of masturbators is the frequency at which they engage in this act, the level of involvement they have with it, and how it impacts their life.

Here are the terms I usually use:

Relief Masturbator: a male who only masturbates as a means of relieving sexual tension and does not do so when sexual intercourse is an option. This behavior is often seen in alpha males, as they tend to discourage masturbation and those who engage in it.

Recreational Masturbator: A male who engages in masturbation for enjoyment on occasion. Usually when other sexual activities are not available or for variety. Does not solely identify as someone who masturbates and does not frequently think about it. May utilize visual aids, such as pornography. His self-pleasure does not interfere with his sexual intercourse pursuits.

Frequent Masturbator: A male who masturbates regularly and it is an important part of their sexual repertoire. They may engage in self-pleasure daily or multiple times a week, and it is a regular part of their routine. This type of masturbator may also have a permanent porn collection and use it as a resource for their sessions. They generally enjoy both intercourse and masturbation, and do not prioritize one over the other. However masturbation competes with sexual intercourse.

Chronic Masturbator: a male who is fully committed to the act of masturbation as his primary or only sexual activity. He engages in this activity at every opportunity and for extended periods of time, consuming many hours each week. This individual likely has difficulty maintaining sexual relationships with females and strongly prefers masturbation over intercourse. Rituals and behaviors are developed to further reinforce this behavior, often accompanied by extensive use of pornography, internet surfing, and social media connections with other masturbators. A Chronic Masturbator may experience conflicting feelings about their behavior and may try to stop but ultimately relapses.

Addicted or Compulsive Masturbator: There is ongoing debate about whether masturbation can truly be classified as an addiction. However, some males do experience a compulsive or excessive urge to masturbate that negatively affects their daily life and relationships. This type of behavior can become difficult to control and may cause feelings of guilt or shame. The defining characteristic is the destructive impact it has on one’s life, such as strained friendships, ruined marriages, or job loss. This goes beyond seeking sexual gratification and involves a compulsive drive that is harmful in nature.

In addition to degrees, there are common terms that imply other aspects. Such as,

Wanker: This word can be used to describe any of the masturbators mentioned above. It is a slang term that is typically meant to be humorous or insulting. The term carries a sense of ridicule and may be used teasingly or in a more derogatory manner. Females often use it to describe beta males who are unable to participate in sexual activity and hold no value for females.

Solo-sexual: A term that has gained recognition in recent years, it describes individuals who primarily experience sexual arousal by themselves rather than others. While they may still engage in sexual activity with partners, they view masturbation as their main source of pleasure. The term is not meant to be derogatory and acknowledges a valid lifestyle choice, similar to terms used in the LGBTQ community for sexual orientation and identity.
