A video on the topic of masturbation referred to most people being “practicing masturbators,’ meaning individuals who masturbate on some sort of regular basis. That phrase stuck in my mind somehow.
Many surveys on human sexuality ask about masturbation: usually just when did you start and how often do you do it. While I am never surprised that the majority of those surveyed admit to masturbating, I am consistently amazed at how infrequently they report doing it. Even allowing for under-reporting out of guilt or shame, the numbers are eye-popping: compared to the solosexperts on this forum, most people are barely practicing at all; they’re more like rank amateurs!
Based on survey data, I had jacked off more times by age eighteen than the typical American male does in his lifetime (!). Is a person who masturbates once per week a ‘practicing masturbator?’ What does that make the lifelong daily jackaholics like me? Perhaps we need a scale of masturbation prowess:
Less than once in a year: Accidental Masturbator
Less than once per month: Intermittent Masturbator
Less than once per week: Occasional Masturbator
One to four times per week: Practicing Masturbator
Five to twelve times per week: Chronic Masturbator
Thirteen to twenty times per week: Obsessive Masturbator
Twenty-one or more times per week: Compulsive Masturbator (or fourteen-year-old me)
Ever since I started as a child, I was never a practicing masturbator. Even now, past sixty, I easily qualify as ‘chronic’ with my daily masturbation sessions (which is a slowdown from my younger days). I sometimes feel a little sad for all those people who don’t seem to fully appreciate the magical wonder of masturbation—that gift you can give yourself as often as you want.
Of course, this is not a typical audience for such musings. The Onania Forum is populated with individuals for whom masturbation is an essential part of their daily lives. I would venture to say that my fellow masturbators here would all declare that they, like me, are not practicing masturbation—we’ve perfected it!

I would be a compulsive masturbator. And have been at periods of my life! I float somewhere between chronic and obsessive in this past year or two. There is sometimes a few days break. Then I get chronic on my dong. It feels too good.
