How to Quit Masturbation

How do I quit masturbation?

Masturbation is not necessarily something that should be quit. Masturbation is a normal occurrence, particularly for males who have started (or have already gone though) puberty. Basically, the same thing is true for females with some variation in frequency.

As far as religion goes, there is no place in the Bible that says a person should "never" masturbate. As far as physical and mental health goes, it does no harm if it’s done moderately. There are, however, some problems that can occur which have chronic masturbation as a symptom. Things like pornography or sex are addictive in some individuals. These two things can and often do involve excessive masturbation. An addiction occurs when there is an obsession with something. If you are obsessed with something, it means that you are so involved with it that it’s getting in the way of your other daily activities such as work, school, time spent with friends/family, chores, or other duties. So unless the masturbation is obsessive and taking up too much of your time, then it shouldn’t be a problem. If you feel like you are spending too much time masturbating, then you have to find other things to occupy your time such as work/school related activities, weight lifting, skateboarding, friends, sports, hobbies, church, prayer, community organizations, YMCA, etc. If you find that you still cannot control your masturbation, psychological therapy should be sought.

Some people do not masturbate at all, some do it once a week, or once a day, or more than once a day. Frequency of masturbation varies very much from person to person. The only time it’s a problem is if it is getting in the way of other events, activities, or responsibilities in a person’s life. It takes sincere and rigorous honesty with yourself to be able to determine if it really is a problem. For more on this issue see an article called: How Much is too Much?
