It you cringe and giggle and is the punchline to a joke but just what is it that makes masturbation such funny business? Technically the only funny thing about masturbation is that it is fun. It is not the most hilarious thing that humans do, it is not even the most clever and it is far from the most interesting. But we grow up thinking it is bad, and like any other forbidden fruit, the taboo makes it all the more intriguing. Since we can’t comfortably discuss masturbation in polite company we are forced to make light of it in order to open up any kind of dialogue. Dialogue that we desperately want to have. Dialogue that teens NEED to have. Because so much of the things teens think they know about masturbation is based on rumours, incongruent sex-ed explanations, and locker room chatter, it is important that there be somewhere to go to get the facts.
